STUPID FUCKING BIRD
Stupid Fucking Bird marked New Forms’ inaugural production, presented in collaboration with Blue Pen Theatre Company. This reimagining of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, adapted by Aaron Posner, launched the company’s commitment to bold, interdisciplinary performance with a sold-out, month-long run in spring 2025.
Staged at MiVida in Frogtown, the production embraced a flexible, artist-driven environment that blurred the line between performance and gathering.
“Site-specific theatre can be really exciting and a fun departure from the typical. It can also be just a gimmick. Glad to say, this is not one of them.” -LA Theatre Bites
Each performance featured a rotating collection of local artists, transforming the space into a living gallery and inviting audiences to move between forms, encountering theatre and visual art as part of a shared, evolving environment rather than separate disciplines.
“By shuffling the audience to different playing areas… director Connor del Rio serves to strengthen this sense of connection…”-Stage and Cinema
As New Forms’ first production, Stupid Fucking Bird set the tone for the company’s approach— crafting evenings of theatre and visual art that move beyond traditional formats, inviting audiences into a more dynamic and communal experience.
This production of Stupid Fucking Bird was nominated for three 2025 LA Theatre Bites Awards— Best Actor (Nick Samson), Best Actress (Amanda Perez), and Best Ensemble (Blue Pen Theatre Co)
