For one weekend only in August 2026, EverFound Arts transformed Sassafras Saloon into Verona for a site-specific, sold-out, New Forms LA adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet.

Directed by Marissa Pattullo, the production invited audiences to move through the world of the play as the story unfolded throughout the historic Hollywood bar—from the chaos of the opening brawl to the Capulet ball, balcony scene, and final moments in the tomb.

Playful, romantic, and dreamy, this ambitious adaptation leaned into the comedy and immediacy of Shakespeare’s story. Strategic script cuts gave the production a fresh, fast-paced energy while honoring the heart of the original, with movement, stage combat, music, and immersive staging bringing Verona to life all around the audience.

Romeo + Juliet continued EverFound Arts’ exploration of familiar stories in unexpected spaces as well as partnering with local artists/businesses to create a larger sense of community. Local vintage and upcycling shop Dead Lady Vintage and local theatre company Last Call Theatre provided costumes, and local tattoo artist Valerie Cienfuego created themed flash tattoos for the show’s afterparties.
